Tuesday Transfer Gists:

United Eye Modric, Mourinho Wants Madrid Star, Real in For Juventus Defender + More! Manchester United are planning a £25m bid to sign Luka Modric, 27, from Real Madrid after coming to the reluctant realisation that they are unlikely to secure any of their primary transfer targets.



Daniel Levy will reluctantly bow to Gareth Bale's desire to leave Tottenham if Real Madrid offer a world record £85m – plus a player – for the 24-year-old forward. United are also keen on Bale if Tottenham
decide they are ready to sell the 24-year- old this summer. United manager David Moyes is returning to England to prepare for showdown talks with striker Wayne Rooney. Chelsea are resolute in their refusal to entertain any bids for David Luiz after it emerged Bayern Munich are considering a £34.5m move for the 26-year-old defender.

Real Madrid are making a surprise attempt for Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini. Ancelotti wants to lure Chiellini to Madrid and is willing to offer €20 million for the Italy international. Cesc Fabregas's agent has moved to reassure Barcelona the midfielder, 26, won't be quitting the Catalan club for Manchester United this summer. Arsene Wenger is determined not to raise Arsenal's £40m bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez – even if it means the transfer going to the wire.

Chelsea are on red alert to the potential availability of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira. Should an offer of €25 million arrive, Real won't hesitate to sell the Germany international. Tottenham have entered the running to sign Steaua Bucharest's 23-year-old defender Vlad Chiriches. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring striker Didier Drogba, 35, back to Stamford Bridge as a player or coach.

Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain was officially unveiled as a Napoli player on Monday night ahead of the Italian club's friendly against Galatasaray. Pepe Reina, who joined the Italians on loan from Liverpool, was also in attendance and both are in line to face Arsenal in the Emirates Cup this weekend.

West Ham have revived their £2.65m move for Lille striker Salomon Kalou. The Ivorian spent six years at Chelsea before joining the French side in 2012 on a free transfer after being released.

Tottenham are preparing a bid for PSG midfielder Javier Pastore according to The Daily Star. The Argentine midfielder moved to the French giants just two years ago but has struggled to make much of an impact on the PSG first team.

Finally, Liverpool are lining up a surprise season-long loan move for Benfica left- back Lorenzo Melgarejo according to the Guardian. The 22-year-old Paraguayan international defender is sought by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers as he looks to bring in cover for present Reds left-back Jose Enrique
