ASUU strike: Please, “bear with us,” FG appeals to students, parents

The Federal Government has appealed to university students and their parents to be patient as negotiations are ongoing with striking university lecturers.

Briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, the Information Minister, Labaran Maku, said government was worried because the disruption of the university calendar comes at a social cost to government.

Jonathan’s Convoy In Nasarawa Auto Crash, 14 Injured

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Shehu, has on Tuesday confirmed that the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan was involved in an auto crash the day before, leaving 14 persons injured. According to the eyewitnesses, three confessional policemen, three mobile policemen, one member of the civil defence corps, as well as one official of the state branch of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and six civilians were “seriously injured”.

ASUU Says No To Re-Negotiating 2009 Agreement

The Federal Government’s new offer of enhanced academic allowances has been rejected by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, insisting that government should first implement in full the 2009 agreement before any other negotiation could take place. Speaking to Vanguard, yesterday, National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, said after consultations with branch chairmen of the union on the new government offer, members rejected it, saying accepting the offer meant starting negotiations afresh.

Policemen at Bode Thomas division of Lagos State command, Tuesday, arrested a woman who allegedly set her 11-year-old house maid ablaze in Surulere area of Lagos, for stealing a piece of meat from her pot of soup.
The maid identified as Ita Bassey-Eno who reportedly escaped death by the whiskers, is currently at the Burns and Trauma Centre of the Gbadaga General Hospital, with doctors battling to save her life.
